Reinvestment continues at Treetops with over a half million dollars in upgrades to be completed in 2021

As the PACE project at Treetops roars on, additional reinvestment is taking place around the property to improve the look, feel and efficiency of the resort and improve our overall guest experience.

Projects already completed or in the works include a new stand up freezer for the Tavern on the Hill at Treetops North, additional ice machines in both hotels doubling the amount that are currently there and a fresh coat of paint for the Jones Clubhouse and Top of the Hill restaurants. In the very near future, we will repave the entrance road and complete work from the past 2 summers to create a smooth surface from the front entrance to the back entrance of the main resort. We will also repair the sidewalks outside of the Inn.

Later this summer, Treetops plans to install all new directional signage resort wide to create a uniform look throughout the resort but more importantly help guests find their way. Treetops will also continue to upgrade its vehicle fleet throughout the year. We also have big plans for an Extreme Tubing Expansion this summer and will expound on those details in a later entry.

Additional Capital is expected to be available in late summer/early fall and we’re excited to inform our guests about more spectacular upgrades as we move through what will prove to be one of the most active years in Treetops history.

Treetops investing millions to help you enjoy your stay at Michigan’s Most Spectacular Resort

Treetops has broken ground on several projects that will result in a noticeable difference to guests visiting the resort this year. By securing a PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) Loan Treetops has embarked on several projects that will improve energy efficiency, disaster resilience and/or water conservation.

Treetops plans to complete the entire $2.7 Million process over the course of 2021 allowing current and not so distant future guests to experience the upgrades right away. Current and completed projects include a comprehensive upgrade of all lighting to LED, upgrading nearly all HVAC systems to 90+ efficiencies, installing room controls to regulate heating and cooling when not in use, an insulation renovation of our 3 most frequently used buildings and replacement of many entrance doors around the property. Many of these upgrades are not flashy to the eye but Treetops guests will feel the difference while allowing our resort to be environmentally conscious.

LED Lighting

PACE work is being carefully managed by Director of Maintenance, Doug Hoeh to stay on schedule and make an impact quickly while being meticulous to not adversely affect or displace the thousands of guests that will be visiting in the next few months. Projects on the horizon include a new roof on the Convention Center, HVAC units in the restaurants and meeting rooms and a lighting upgrade complete with easy dimming switches in meeting rooms as well. Just in time to welcome meeting groups back to Treetops as COVID restrictions continue to ease as we beat this pandemic.

We’re thrilled to welcome our guests to Treetops in 2021 to show them how their business has allowed us to reinvest millions back into our property.

Have You Seen our New Look?

The Treetops team has been busy behind the scenes with finishing up the renovation, and we are pleased to tell you 2018 is going to rock! If you've been following our progress, then you know that over the past 14 months, we've made a lot of improvements for you. The biggest and most requested was a major overhaul of our guest rooms. With new furniture and fixtures, linens, carpets, wallpaper and paint, new bathrooms with beautiful new showers, you can imagine what a nice improvement this is for our guests.

Had a fabulous time! Very friendly staff. Kids loved the pool. The bar is a great added feature to the Lodge. It allows everyone to gather in one location for great conversation.

The next time you arrive at Treetops Resort, you will walk into a whole new lobby with a brand new guest check-in area and a gift shop featuring convenience items, snack, and Michigan made products. You can grab a drink or bite to eat at the all new Bar 81 right in the lobby, which also offers nice selection of ice cream.

Our room was very nice....recently updated and clean. Both my husband and I commented on the crispness of the sheets.

The Inn lobby got a face lift too, with a new fireplace, furniture, and a game room. The indoor pool at the Inn saw some nice upgrades, making it a much more comfortable and relaxing place to hang. We are looking forward to welcoming you this season to other improvements we are almost set to launch, including new menus in our restaurants, new mobile pin sheets for the Signature & Masterpiece, new turf equipment for smoother greens, new virtual scorecards, new spa services, and new kids programs.

How’s the Renovation Going?

Things are moving right along with all the exciting changes and updates. Both the Treetops Lodge and the Treetops Inn will have a fresh new look the next time you see them, including exterior trim, balconies and doors. The new look offers a pop of color while maintaining a natural look, fitting into the landscape nicely.

"The stay was great! I can't wait to see it after the renovations."

The front of the Lodge is nearly complete, with just a bit of trim left to cover and an anticipated completion date of November 1st. We are on a 2-week countdown to a complete Lodge lobby overhaul, including a gift shop, lobby bar with food service, and even an ice cream parlor.

The team is currently putting a new fireplace in the Inn lobby, a new arcade room, new wall covering, fixtures, furnishings, and carpet. The Inn hallways are also in the works and coming right along with fresh paint, trim, lighting, room numbers, and carpeting to follow next month.

Our Progress Update

"The refurbished room was lovely; bed and linens wonderful."

We promised to keep you in the loop on our renovation news...Crews are working through the construction punch list on the rooms this month, and yes - that includes shelves in the shower for your shampoo. There's new landscaping at the Treetops Lodge, along with new irrigation, and new grass. There's also a shiny new curb to compliment the new entrance ramps.

Next up...exterior painting for both buildings, hallways, and lobbies. We were excited to show you a mock-up of the exterior paint, but the photo came out pretty bad, in the shadows, and overexposed. If you could use your imagination, the colors are both fresh and natural.

Renovation – What’s Next?

Now that the room portion of the renovation is complete, the crew is working through the punch list of detail items such as shower shelves for shampoo and soap, drywall, grout and paint touch-ups and minor carpeting adjustments.

On deck is the hallways for both the Treetops Lodge and the Treetops Inn, with a target start date of mid-September. Sticking to the original plan to do the work from the inside out, we avoided having teams of workers carrying building materials over brand new carpeting to get to the rooms.

The hallway upgrades will include paint, fixtures, carpeting, and more. The crew is planning to have that work completed mid-November, while working systematically to ensure a great experience for guests staying with us.

Work on the lobbies will begin mid-October and we are thrilled to share a few fun additions with you! Plans are being finalized for a new and improved front desk for a better check-in experience, the Lodge lobby will be home to a gift shop, a lobby bar, and a sweet shop showcasing local confections and offering ice cream service.

New & Improved Treetops Inn Rooms

"Stayed at Treetops again. And have to tell you the newly renovated rooms are awesome. They seem to be in the finishing stages of a remodel and it looks great. Rooms were comfortable. All new furnishings and bathrooms. Golfing was spectacular as usual. Good job Treetops."

Treetops Resort General Manager, Barry Owens, announced in November that Treetops Resort had secured a $4.5 million USDA loan to aid Resort renovations and improvements, with work beginning immediately. With 6 months under our belt, the room renovations are on track to be finished July 28th. There are just 13 lodging rooms left to complete - the final wing!

"We are excited to make these improvements for our leisure guests in this new season, and our meeting and convention clients are looking forward to the improvements allowing for more comfort and an elevated experience in the Lodge and Inn during their stay," said General Manager, Barry Owens.

The new and improved Inn Rooms (pictured here) were completed on May 19th, with the exterior paint, hallways, lobbies, and other public spaces for both buildings scheduled for renovations later this season.

Treetops Renovation Update

In renovation news, "the Lodge rooms are moving right along," said Director of Rooms, James Vanderveer. The upper level of the Treetops Lodge will be completed by June 23, with the final wing of the main level to follow. The completion date is set for July 28, 2017.

The last of the furniture shipments are being delivered with the final pieces being installed in the rooms.

The new and improved indoor swimming pool located in the Treetops Inn will be open in the next few days, having received a nice face lift.

Planning is underway for corridors, lobbies, and exterior paint for both buildings, with a start date to be determined by when it will cause the least inconvenience to our guests.

Treetops Resort offers guests a true northern Michigan retreat with over 2,100 breathtaking acres, 81 holes of championship golf, including Threetops, North America's #1 Par 3 course, 23 ski slopes and a full-service convention and event venue. Since joining the team in 2010, General Manager, Barry Owens recognized the need to make this renovation a high-priority to make the Treetops Resort one of the premier destinations in the country.

"We had not experienced Treetops prior to our visit and decision to get married there May 2017. Even though the resort was in the middle of staffing changes and a $4.5 million renovation, they did everything to ensure our day was perfect and our guests accommodated for! The new renovations really update the rooms nicely. The golf courses are first class. The Legends bar and the catering menu had amazingly good food! People couldn't stop raving about our delicious wedding food. A few mishaps along the way were always quickly compensated for or fixed which was extremely appreciated since issues will always arise with a large event! We couldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding venue or better staff to work with!"

"We went to Treetops to play Threetops--and visit. We are a foursome of women that all play a lot of golf. First off--the 4 rating is because of the staff. The room was recently updated--and looked lovely--new carpet, paint, comfy bed, nice tile in bathroom…"

Treetops Renovation Update – May 23rd, 2017

We are happy to announce that 100% of all guest rooms in the Treetops Inn were completed last Friday, May 19th and the projected opening date of the brand new pool area at Treetops Inn is June 1st.

The Treetops Lodge renovations are in full swing with spectacular new carpet, paint, wallpaper, and bathrooms so far. Work on the low 600 floor will be completed this Wednesday, the low 700 floor by June 22nd, and the low 500 floor by July 28th.

Discussions and planning for the new Lodge lobby will begin this week with the project beginning in July.

New Bathrooms, New Door Locks

Check out the beautiful new bathrooms in the Lodge rooms at Treetops Resort! Spacious tiled showers with a step-around glass wall and new fixtures mark a wonderful upgrade for your Michigan Golf Vacation.

The new hotel room door locks are installed as well, and we've done a major upgrade to a keyless electronic RFID system.
